Cradle to Cradle textiles for Lidl

Both we, the Cradle to Cradle® experts of the internationally active consulting institute EPEA GmbH - Part of Drees & Sommer, and the Beneficial Design Institute GmbH, are committed to the development and distribution of textile products without harmful chemicals. In several projects, we tested textiles and products from various fashion manufacturers and retail supply chains and optimised them according to the Cradle to Cradle design principles.

One of our current joint projects is being realised as a pilot project together with Lidl and the CHT Group - a worldwide operating company for specialty chemicals based in Tübingen. LIDL’s textile products are not only made of biodegradable materials, but also use biodegradable printing pastes that were specially developed within the scope of the joint project with the CHT Group to fulfil the strict criteria of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ product standard at the gold level.

All products of the pilot project were certified at gold and silver levels. Together with Prof. Michael Braungart, the co-developer of the Cradle to Cradle principles, our scientists evaluated the ingredients of these textiles according to C2C requirements, sorted out all harmful substances and accompanied the optimisation of the printing paste for 18 months. The overall design and project management is carried out by the Beneficial Design Institute GmbH.
