Economical, digital, innovative and sustainable — The company is also implementing what has been true of Drees & Sommer projects for a long time at its Expo Real stand this year.
The real estate consulting and project management company is exhibiting in the NOVA3 Innovation Hall at Booth A3.410/300 and has for the first time designed its stand based on the Cradle to Cradle design concept, C2C for short. This means that the materials used at the stand have been optimised according to C2C principles and are returned to defined material cycles after the trade fair, so that there is almost no waste. These include, for example, the flexible scaffolding system, C2C-certified textiles and lamps, and the reusable bar made from recycled clothing. Drees & Sommer is thus showing in a practical way how the Cradle to Cradle concept can be applied and resources can be saved in the fast-paced and material-intensive trade fair business.
Printed walls, countless promotional items and sophisticated catering services — major events such as trade fairs usually generate considerable amounts of waste — and that in just a few days. Much of this is avoidable or can be made much more environmentally friendly. One solution for this is the Cradle to Cradle design concept, which stands for recyclable, climate-positive and healthy products, fair and efficient manufacturing processes and potentially infinite reuse of materials. The innovative concept is already being used in many Drees & Sommer construction and real estate projects. However, the company's new exhibition stand shows that future-proof and sustainable solutions are crucial not only for buildings with a lifespan of 30 or 40 years, but also for temporary buildings such as exhibition stands.
“With our Cradle to Cradle-inspired exhibition stand, we want, on the one hand, to encourage our customers and trade fair visitors to use resources more consciously. On the other hand, it is important for us to set an example for greater sustainability in the area of exhibition construction and design as well. The necessary products, tools and concepts are already available to everyone today,”
says Dr. Peter Mösle, Partner at Drees & Sommer SE and Managing Director of EPEA GmbH — Part of Drees & Sommer.
Drees & Sommer used in-house know-how to design the stand: The experts from the RBS GROUP were responsible for the design and EPEA GmbH for the Cradle to Cradle advice. In close collaboration, they developed the stand concept, which not only focused on sustainable products, but also aimed at reducing waste generation to a minimum after the trade fair.
Sustainable exhibition stand — from chairs to lamps
The new exhibition stand used high-quality, recyclable materials, some of which have been certified according to Cradle to Cradle Certified product standards. For example, the wooden structures such as the reception desk, the bench and the stand of the exhibition stand are made of refined old wood. The bar is made from Solid Textile Board, which is a high-density material made from old textiles and fabric blanks. C2C-certified textile straps made from 100 percent recycled post-consumer polyester form an optical frame around the exhibition stand. The solid wood natural floor is produced from local spruce wood and can be returned to the biological cycle without harmful substances after its lifespan. On the other hand, the C2C-certified luminaires on the exhibition stand are suitable for the technical cycle.
The ability to dismantle structures also contributes to the concept of a true circular economy. After use, the steel framework at the exhibition stand is dismantled into individual parts and brought to the warehouse of the exhibition building partner, Atelier Damböck Messebau GmbH — ready for any number of other trade fair assignments. The chairs used are also designed in such a way that they can be easily dismantled and returned to high-quality recycling or recycling. All of these products and measures result in a sustainable exhibition stand that makes the Cradle to Cradle concept and important aspects of the circular economy comprehensible and tangible for every visitor.
