Take back system closes the loop

Take Back is an innovative system developed by Hydro - Pole Products to close the loop. Old light poles are collected and stripped after which all parts are fully brought back into the technical cycle. The system suits both societal developments as well as sustainability goals within municipalities.

Hydro - Pole Products supplies since 2011 Cradle to Cradle Certified™ silver aluminium light poles.

Taking back scrap for recycling aluminum onsite was already part of the sustainability policy of Hydro - Pole Products. It formed the basis for adopting the Cradle to Cradle® philosophy. Take Back is a logical next step in the continuous Cradle to Cradle process. The system provides a high level of understanding of recycling of materials and sustainable processing.

The remelting of the aluminum light poles, the extrusion of the billets into tubes and the production of new light poles, all takes place at the Hydro location in Drunen. The residues that Hydro cannot process are brought back into the chain by a waste specialist.

Take Back unburdens municipalities

When light poles are being replaced, a municipality may choose for the Take Back System. With the delivery of new poles, Hydro entirely takes back the old aluminum light poles (including fittings, cabling, etc.), after which all components are disassembled and returned into the technical cycle. Hydro coordinates the entire logistical process, and thus unburdens municipalities.

Maximize reusability of products and materials and minimize waste

Light poles from Hydro are designed to be reused entirely at the end of their lifespan.

“Developing solutions according to the Cradle to Cradle® design not only facilitates the disassembly of our light poles. It also helps to increase the future availability of scrap and helps our customers adjust to a circular economy” , says Leopold Moormann, Managing Director of Pole Products.
